Swing Life Away

It’s hard to let go of summer as it slowly slips away…even when we may be ready for autumn and getting back to work. There’s something so romantic about those final days, free from the layers that will soon cover us to keep us from the cold, free from the walls that will keep us warm inside when all turns grey inevitably, free from the responsibilities of work we manage to forget now and then. The last days of summer, this the twilight of our freedom and never has it felt so amazing as in the golden hour when most of it’s behind us. I promise all year I won’t forget this feeling, barefoot in the vineyard, best friends at my heels, secret swing sets waiting in the trees…

Sol

Pool days exist for a few very important reasons; so with the sun our freckles can come out in full force like star constellations surrounding our summer eyes, so swimming can wash away the city soot that collected on our souls all year, so pages of good books can be devoured and stained with melty popsicle drips, and so tan lines can map across our bodies summer memories of laughing with friends over  kitschy pool toys, and so I can write run on sentences about it all. These days don’t come often enough.

En Plein Air

“En plein air” means open air in French…and that’s where I’ve been. Night after balmy summer night since my return, with barely a breeze to hurry me back inside. I’ve become a sunrise to sunset twinkle light chaser with my camera by my side, riding shotgun for snapshots at a shimmer’s notice. Moments for that aren’t hard to come by in a late Paris summer, between twirling past rooftops on the swings and ferris wheel of Tuileries or lying in a midnight park with friends at your side and a good movie projected before your eyes. We all know summer doesn’t last forever though, so take a deep breath and a good look.
