What I Wore… to the Musée Carnavalet

french_fashion_01

Hi baby dolls! Ca va? How was the weekend? I love the Musée Carnavalet. It’s like a little mini Versailles just right up the street from my place. Most of the museum is free so I stop in now and then just to admire the lovely decors and occasional exhibitions. Currently there is an incredible exhibition on the history of Louis Vuitton and Paris. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to take pictures inside because they were prohibited, but on display are over a hundred of Louis Vuitton’s classic trunks, custom designed for the elite of two centuries passed. The detail and thought given to each one of these pieces was extraordinary. Up close filled with brushes, polishes, fine silver, shoes, lingerie and more each personal item has a space carved specifically for it in these trunks that have travelled the world. Incredible seeing the craftsmanship that still goes into the Louis Vuitton goods, from hand stitched bags to hand painted shoe soles. If you live in or are stopping through Paris you must visit it. But! In the meantime here are some shots of the rest of the museum and my museum ensemble for the day.

Lolita

I am so excited! I found this most amazing dress in the vintage store on my street. I normally hate going in there. It’s teenie tiny and packed to ceiling with polyester and acrylic junk that should be put in spaceship and sent the far reaches of the universe so no one ever mistakenly wears it again. But today was special as this little darling was hanging up behind the cash register just waiting for me to rescue it. I have long been coveting this dress by Yves Saint Laurent with its obscenely sized sleeves, and I feel like this dress is the perfect runway to real way version for my style. I thought it so be oh so Lolita, and feeling a bit Kubrick I ran home and threw on my Lolita shades and Repetto mary janes along with my stuffed pug purse and took these pics to share. Don’t you love when you find a piece of clothing and it really inspires you? Especially when it only costs ten euros!

Did I mention I didn’t try it on, and it fit like a glove! Destiny…

Maybe someday it will end up in the Bardot Boutique but for now it’s mine mine mine!
