It would seem a blogger right of passage to do the what’s in my bag post, and after realizing in three years of blogging I never divulged the contents of the things I carry closest to me, I have decided the time is now! In all honesty, I’m no Mary Poppins and am often known to head out the door with nothing more than cash and keys in my pocket. Yet the real reason I think I may have refrained from sharing this part of my life is that it’s almost always a mess. Any given day my purse is filled with what’s below, as well as loose change and crumbs from Starbucks scones I have found myself addicted to swimming at the bottom of my bag amongst long expired metro cards and crumpled up receipts for money I am pretending I haven’t spent. Truth be told I don’t even put my credit card back in my wallet…bad habits die hard. So let’s look at exhibit A below as an idealized reflection of the polished and prepared lady I aspire to be someday. It’s amazing what the contents of a hand bag can reveal about people so let’s dive in…shall we?
My pink Miu Miu bouletto is my preferred purse since the day I made her mine last July on Rodeo Drive. She fits just enough while staying small and cute. On a day out, my hair is a constant project going up and down depending on my mood. I’ve been this way since kindergarten when my teacher suggested to my parents I might have OCD (not a GIRLS reference!) when I was obsessed with fixing my half pony every ten minutes at school. So on that note I always have a brush and one of my trusty Alexandre de Paris hair clips that I swear by as the only ones strong enough to hold my hair. I almost always bring my makeup with me out, because it makes me feel safe or something like it’s there in case I run into Ryan Gosling even though I have touched up my makeup outside of the house about twice in my entire life. But that’s no mystery because clearly all my vanity is exhausted on my hair. My sunglasses come too, which get more use on the metro than in broad daylight when I’m napping and hope that no one notices and tries to steal my Miu Miu with the contents of my crazy life. Of course all ladies know on public transportation head phones serve an equally noble social function as the I can’t hear you and therefore you do not exist buffer for perverts trying to talk to you and gypsies begging for the spare change at the bottom of my bag stuck to the scone crumbs.

In France I carry my handy little pocket French < > English dictionary with me, because it’s not like anyone has invented an iPhone app for that yet. I also always carry a small notebook with me to write down ideas when they come for photos, films, poems, work notes, travel and more. I have about six of these filled up and like my purse they have no particular organization to them but when I get free time I open them up and start working through all the ideas I wrote down. The Miu Miu wallet was the only piece of the iconic swallow print silk from Miuccia’s SS ’10 collection I could afford to get my hands on, and it’s such a treasure to me. Remember how everyone wanted the amazing prints that season and they were so hard to track down? There you have it…my purse!
